Museums in the neighbourhood

If you are visiting the Oberharz, it makes sense to pay a visit to the surrounding area. Either by car or by public transport.

The Oberharz is ideally connected to many places. But don't just enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. How about culture and a visit to a museum?

Imperial Palace Goslar

Visit this fantastic monument to architecture in Goslar on an area at the foot of the Rammelsberg. It was built in the 11th century as a "palace" (from the Latin palatium/palace) for the then Emperor Henry II as a representative place of power. Visit the imperial palace, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the imperial house, St Ullrich's Palatine Chapel and the vestibule of the former collegiate church. Be impressed by the fabulous architecture of the buildings and the marvellous art treasures to be discovered here.

Rammelsberg

Copper, lead and zinc ores were mined in the Rammelsberg mine for over 3,000 years. The mine was closed in 1988 after almost 30 million tonnes of ore had been extracted over the centuries. Today, the mine is open to visitors: Guided tours show the history of the underground area. The fascinating technology of the processing plant can be discovered "above ground". Changing special exhibitions in the museum show exciting facts about the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the first industrial monument in Germany to be declared a World Heritage Site.
