Active holiday with panoramic views over the famous Oker reservoir
Schulenberg was newly created because in 1954 Unter- and Mittelschulenberg were built for the Oker reservoir were flooded to realise the planned dam. The inhabitants were resettled 100 metres higher up on the large Wiesenberg. The "old" 500-year-old Schulenberg thus gave way to the waters of the Oker and there was a "new" Schulenberg with a marvellous view of the Oker dam. Since then, the mysterious legend has persisted that the church spire of the lost village of Schulenberg can occasionally be seen in the lake and bells can be heard ringing from time to time.
Today, the reservoir is a popular attraction for active holidaymakers who want to do sports both on land and in the water. There are no limits to the activities in the water or in the beautiful Harz landscape around the reservoir. You can go sailing, surfing, stand-up paddling, canoeing and swimming on the lake. The Racepark Schulenberg, with downhill, freeride and slopestyle, is a top address for extreme bikers. The Skialpinum offers attractive pistes of varying degrees of difficulty for skiers and snowboarders.
Water sports in Schulenberg - Always active on the water
The Oker reservoir whose romantic bays nestle against the surrounding mountains, is an attractive attraction for walkers, skaters and, above all, water sports enthusiasts, especially in summer. You can sail, surf, canoe or swim on the lake. Enjoy the clear water and let your gaze wander over the surrounding mountains and green forests. You can also take boat trips on the lake.
Activities in Schulenberg - Always active on land
In Schulenberg, you can not only get active in the water, but also on land with tennis, golf, climbing, hiking or cycling. Hikers can enjoy the fitness trail with exercises such as mountain running, rings, pull-ups, press-ups and balancing. The entrance is at the Tannenhöhe car park. There is also the opportunity to play mini golf, clubs and balls are available free of charge: at BSW Haus Brockenblick (Auf der Höhe 7) and at the Sporthotel (Unter den Birken 6).
In the so-called Racepark Schulenberg, a lift takes you and your mountain bike comfortably up the 645 metre high Wiesenberg. Here you can choose between different descents: Downhill, Freeride, Bikercross and Dirt Slopestyle. You can also spend a wonderful winter sports holiday in Schulenberg in winter. The Ski-Alpinum offers four downhill runs of varying difficulty levels as well as two lifts and a snowboard fun park. Cross-country skiers will find a well-groomed and extensive network of trails throughout the region.
Schulenberg stone and sculpture trail
Visit the 700 metre-long stone and sculpture trail in Schulenberg. In 2014, a small path with several artistically crafted wooden sculptures and rocks typical of the Harz region was created on part of the Trimm-Dich-Pfad, the Sonnenbankweg, above the village of Schulenberg. Visitors can linger on the benches while they take a closer look at the sculptures, all of which also offer a view of the Brocken. The trail combines nature in the Harz Mountains with an artistic feast for the eyes
